Holy cow…I started posting my grocery spending with the intention of showing you what exactly I buy and how I stay within my monthly budget of $200 for groceries and personal care items, usually without using coupons (because let’s face it, there aren’t many coupons out there for gluten free foods, or for fresh meat, dairy, and produce).
I’m really, REALLY glad I’m doing this, but not for the reason I’d anticipated. As I track every purchase, I’m quickly discovering something disturbing.
My husband shops WAY TOO OFTEN!!!
I know, right? That seems so weird. But it’s true. He’s gone to the store three times in the last four days. Holy flippin’ cow! No wonder I always come to the last week of the month and am shocked about how little cash is left in our grocery envelope! So…this has been a good thing for me to do, simply because it’s been a nice wake-up call. And yes, the hubs will be hearing from me…..poor man.:-)
Anyway, here’s what our household has purchased since the last update:
One basket ($16.50) that included:
- 4 ears red-spotted corn
- 1 head cauliflower
- 1 bunch radishes
- 2 zucchini
- 1 cucumber
- 2 bunches banana
- 6 large tomatoes
- 1 cantaloupe
- 8 peaches
- 6 plums
- 6-oz pkg blueberries
- 1 lb block cheddar cheese
- 1 avocado
- 1 pkg hamburger buns
- 4 lbs ground turkey
- 1 head lettuce
- 1 lb fresh, all natural peanut butter (bulk section)
- 2 gallons 1% milk
- 2.4 oz chili powder
- 3 green bell peppers
- 2 lb medium cheddar cheese
- 12.8 oz semi sweet chocolate chips
- 1 pkg flour tortillas
- 1.6 lb coco puff-type cereal (bulk food section)
There was also a trip to the Dollar Store, but my husband has not returned yet, so I don’t know the total there. I’ll post it next time.
Aye, yai, yai! More money being spent than I would like, but hey, now that I know, I can improve! I’ll round each of the totals up to the next dollar and stick the change in the jar.
