July’s Grocery Spending 2 comments

In an effort to keep better track of what I’m spending our grocery money on, I’m going to try and track it for July.  I’ll post my purchases on the blog, to keep myself accountable, and to share what I waste spend my money on.

My husband has been busted buying Cherry Coke.  I honestly have no clue what more I can do to discourage it.  At least he’s no longer spending $1.25 every day to get a 64-oz refill.  He’s begun purchasing the 2-liters for less than $1, and I suppose it’s progress.  But it’s coming from his own dang money, not our family’s grocery budget, so I won’t include that, but in order to give you a completely honest picture I must inform you of the addiction in my house.:-)

So far this month I’ve gone to the store twice (ALREADY!!).  I went to Winco and spent about $9 on bulk food.  I bought:

  • Onion powder
  • Chili powder
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Freshly ground all-natural peanut butter (which, wow, is really good!)
  • Dried cranberries
  • 2 avocados

Total spent: $8 and some change, I’m rounding it up to $9 and putting the change in my change jar.

I also went to Ream’s (a local grocery store) and bought some things today:

  • 4.5 lbs boneless country pork ribs ($1.49/lb)
  • 1.8 lbs red seedless grapes ($1.39/lb)
  • 3 lbs peaches ($0.99/lb)
  • 6 limes (12 for $1)
  • 1 freshly baked loaf bread ($0.99)
  • 24-pack toilet paper ($7.19)

Total spent – $22.71, round up to $23

Running monthly total:  $32

Bulk area at Winco is the best! Especially, their spices. I just got some dill weed last week and only paid 34c for the whole spice jar!

Lena, I agree…I’m completely obsessed with the bulk section at Winco! Kudos to you for filling your entire spice jar for that cheap…that’s so AWESOME!!:-)
